Simon's Final Sound

By Finegan Kruckemeyer

11 – 21 December 2013
Theatre Royal Backspace

Commissioned by Blue Cow Theatre; World Premiere production

Blue Cow wanted to show off our favourite funny Tasmanian actors. So we persuaded the multi-award-winning Finegan Kruckemeyer to put finger to keyboard, and lined up the comedic talent: Guy Hooper, Mel King, Jeff Michel and John Xintavelonis. What a foursome!

Fin dreamed up a play about people who try, fail, try again, and fail better.

There’s Simon, who’s going deaf, and Michael who has a dull bank job.  Ginny’s life lacks surprise, and Claude is an idiot but he does have a boat!  Together they embark on an epic South Seas adventure in search of a magical – but possibly non-existant – island. Huge humour meets heart.

WHAT PEOPLE SAID ABOUT “SIMON’S FINAL SOUND”

“This world premiere by Hobart based playwright Finnegan Kruckemeyer was developed to showcase the comic skills of four members of the local professional actors company, Blue Cow. Audiences have been rewarded with some of the most riotously comic moments you are likely to experience in the theatre. … Director/Designer Robert Jarman supports his comic ensemble with one of the better sets I’ve seen in the Backspace for sometime and great production values in sound and lighting. This is a finely produced and acted adult comedy with some deliciously outrageous moments.” – The Mercury

"...brilliantly crafted pure moments of perfect comedy have left my ribs aching..." – Ryk Goddard, ABC Radio

"I laughed myself silly for much of it, then was really moved by the ending." – Lian Tanner

“You should see this while you still can. Excellent script by Finegan, deft and dynamic direction by Robert, and a damn fine cast all smashing their roles. The result is thoroughly engaging, and hilarious.” – Shaun Wilson

“I am most impressed by how Blue Cow can commission something so good and give it a first showing with the kind of polish and sense of completeness that usually comes after many false starts and revisions. You guys are onto something great here, in the way you go from strength to strength as a company and in the quality of what ends up on a stage, over and over.” – Rod Anderson
