DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Last updated August 2023

A SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY IS ONE WHERE INDIVIDUALS OF DIFFERENT RACE, ETHNICITY, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS, LANGUAGE, GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGIN, GENDER AND/OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION BRING THEIR DIFFERENT KNOWLEDGE, BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE, AND INTEREST FOR THE BENEEIT OF THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. Blue Cow is a cultural ally and advocate for change. We recognise that we need to support the representation on our stages of lives and stories from our culturally and linguistically diverse communities. We acknowledge that we need to support more diverse representation in the leadership and management of our company, as well as in our rehearsal rooms, auditoriums, and foyers.

We commit to investigating further ways we can better engage and support diversity in all that we do. We will do this by listening, asking for guidance and by seeking out organisations with diverse representation so they know there are opportunities at Blue Cow Theatre.

We understand that Aboriginal-related work must be Aboriginal-led and informed. We especially recognise identity strain and the cultural load of our creative palawa community and will advocate so this work is no longer “invisible”.

RACISM

Blue Cow Theatre will not tolerate racism or bullying and has put in place codes of conduct to keep the workplace culturally safe, supportive and respectful for all. We recognise that systemic racism faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples still exists in our society and industry, and we work to help eradicate it. We commit to undertaking an annual review of our policies and codes of conduct to ensure they continue to reflect anti-racist values.

PLAYWRITING & DRAMATURGY

We recognise that moving forward we need to investigate ways that we can encourage diversity in the development of new work. We will expand our efforts to employ and offer professional development opportunitiesfrom diverse backgrounds. We strive to continue to make our work accessible to new audiences. We are committed to furthering these, and other relationships, to ensure our work can be experienced by as many people as possible.

PROGRAMMING

Blue Cow Theatre is committed to sharing stories that reflect the full cultural diversity of Tasmania. We recognise the enthusiasm amongst audiences for these narratives.

REPORTING

Blue Cow Theatre will report on our progress in regard to these commitments.
