COWSHED LEGACY

Cowshed Legacy is a series of development programs to support Tasmanian artists to develop their work to be performance ready. The program will be delivered once only, in 2024, and aims to celebrate the legacy of Blue Cow Theatre in our final year of operation.

The Cowshed Legacy Program will consist of two opportunities:

·       Creative development support up to $10 000 per project

·       Playwrights’s residency on Bruny Island 22 – 27 August 2024.

Applicants can apply for one or both opportunities. Success in one does not guarantee success in both.

Essential Criteria

  1. Applicants must have had some tangible connection to Blue Cow Theatre either as a previous Cowshed participant, artist or creative. As Blue Cow is an artist run company, applications from former employees and Board members are welcome should they choose to apply.

  2. Applicants must be working on projects that are already substantially progressed. The creative development is to support the work to production, not to devise new work from an idea.

  3. Applicants can also be representative of the wider creative community. For example, consideration will be given to designers/makers where it can be shown that what is proposed will significantly support the professional development of the applicant. Hard to be definitive with this criteria so chat with Lucinda.

  4. There must be some form of showing at the end of the project, no later than 15 December 2024. The what, when and how can be discussed. This ‘showing’ is to promote your work to industry people who could progress the project further.

  5. You must demonstrate the viability of your project, ie how this support will enable you to progress the work to full production.

Other Information

  • Whilst Blue Cow has predominantly worked in text-based theatre, consideration will be given to other performance projects with a strong narrative and hybrid execution.

  • Consideration will be given to what you propose and the amount you ask for. For example, applications can range from a professional first read of a script to a one or two week development depending on the team. Once again chat to Lucinda prior to make sure you are maximising your application.

  • Successful applicants will be chosen because their project is good, interesting, and viable.

  • Successful applicants will be supported in the production of their project including administrative support, paying wages, insurances etc.

The Residency

The residency is an opportunity for writers to work intensively on their script, support each other with play readings and conversation. The residency will be fully catered (vegetarian). It will be the responsibility of writers to get themselves to the property however share transport will be coordinated closer to the time.

It is anticipated that we travel to Bruny Island morning Thursday 22 August and lunch at Adventure Bay before checking into the accomodation 2pm. Leaving the island late afternoon on Tuesday 27 August.
